How is Strata different from a shared drive or SharePoint?

A shared drive stores files. Strata controls them. Every document carries a reference, an owner, enforced metadata, a version lineage and an approval state — and every action against it is written to an audit trail you can hand to an auditor without editing.

Can we define our own metadata fields?

Yes. Organization admins build a library of custom attributes — text, number, date, dropdown, multi-select, checkbox or user picker — then attach the relevant ones to a folder. Whatever is attached appears in the upload dialog, and required fields block the upload until they are filled.

What happens when someone uploads a new version?

The previous version is preserved, not overwritten. The uploader records a reason for change, the version number increments, and the document returns to the approval state configured for that folder. Any earlier version can be restored, and the supersession is logged.

How do permissions actually work?

Roles are assigned per project, not globally. A person can be a Reviewer on one project and a Viewer on another within the same organization. New members start with no access at all — permission is always granted deliberately.

Do you support SSO and two-factor authentication?

Strata authenticates against your identity provider over SAML or OIDC. Two-factor can be enforced organization-wide, and session policy is configurable per organization.

Can we migrate documents we already have?

Bulk import accepts your existing folder structure and a metadata mapping file, so references, owners and revision numbers carry over rather than being retyped. Enterprise plans include a guided migration.
